A stimulating read
is the latest book, The Elephant and the Flea, by Charles Handy
in which he covers a variety of topics including the concept of "chunking".
For Handy, chunking describes dividing time for the four different
types of work that has to be done by an individual: Earning work,
home work, gift work and study work and the need to strike the right
balance between all four.
Study work emphasises Handy's strong belief in lifelong learning.
Much is talked about the need for individuals continuing to develop
themselves but few people set aside the time to do it. Handy feels
that minimum of 10% of your time or 25 days a year should be dedicated
to educating yourself.
This year one of our directors did something different with her
learning time, a Spanish language course near Cadiz .It was an ideal
environment in which to learn during the day and then practice the
language in a totally Spanish environment in the evening. Learning
something new keep you stimulated, so think about how you will be
spending your 25 days this year.
Should you be interested in intensive Spanish training, IPE would
be pleased to forward details.
